Acids and bases are used in swimming pools to keep the pool free of harmful bacteria without making your eyes sting. When chlorine is added to a swimming pool, the water produces a hyprchlorus acid. This acid kills bacteria so then the pools is safe for swimming. When all the chemicals in a pool, are combined together they need to have a pH of 7-2 to 7-8 ,otherwise the pools will not be safe for people to swim in.If the PH is under 7.2 the micro-orgasims will be killed but the swimmers will get red stinging eyes. If the PH rises above 7.8 the bacteria will gr

Acids and Bases in fish tanks
The 7 is the midpoint which means the water is neutral as the ph goes down from the midpoint it gets more acidic if it goes up it gets more alkaline which means basic. Many aquarium fish that originate from South America prefer softer, more acidic water, whereas fish from East Africa do best in hard, alkaline water. Most fish do fine in a pH range of 6.5 and 8.
